tissue culture is interesting but seems like breeders don't use it ---- One reason is time -be interesting to do in adidtion to other projects also seems time comsumingHave you gave tissue culture a try Hawkman? We used to do stem/leaf cuts years ago on a new type of potato plant we were breeding never considered it for marijuana plants even though it was the 70s lol I been thinking about giving it a go again
Another reason is you need to have a SAB or flow hood, and know how to use it. If you can't for example do agar work and produce clean mycelial spawn, you probably won't have much luck with sterile plant work.tissue culture is interesting but seems like breeders don't use it ---- One reason is time -be interesting to do in adidtion to other projects also seems time comsuming
This is true but anyone who has cultivated mushrooms should know how to build a SAB. They don’t need to be that big for most home growers and small breeders. I feel within the next few years TC will be the norm in cannabis. Especially once people start to really figure out how to make it practical for themselves.Another reason is you need to have a SAB or flow hood, and know how to use it. It’s only relatively new in cannabis, but the process has been around for decades. Just imagine where we would be if cannabis wasn’t in the underground when these techniques were being developed. Thanks guy's for the information - it's relatively new (5yrs) and can see in the future that "tissue culture" may be use more widely At present it's not for me byt do see the importance of
How true -- when I posted threr a few places when one ca obtain the "stuff" I'm sure theire are more now and more commming on-line in the future. beleive it's the purest way to get an 'Pure" strain. just thing if one could find some very old pheno's (Landrancesa, hierloom )use tissue cluture preservation could be easier instead of try-ing to keep a plant (mother) for yearsIt’s only relatively new in cannabis, but the process has been around for decades. I don’t keep a lot of clones because of space, but I have been toying with the idea of trying out some TC. It would be ideal for keeping a decent amount of cultivars in a small area without too much maintenance. Gonna do some more research and try to find some small kits that are reasonably priced to see if it works for me.
Yeah that’s my thoughts exactly, it would condense a whole mother room into a small manageable space with less care needed. That’s pretty much the appeal for me, being able to hold a bunch of stuff I like in a small area. And yeah the preservation aspect of it is huge as well. How true -- when I posted threr a few places when one ca obtain the "stuff" I'm sure theire are more now and more commming on-line in the future. beleive it's the purest way to get an 'Pure" strain. just thing if one could find some very old pheno's (Landrancesa, hierloom )use tissue cluture preservation could be easier instead of try-ing to keep a plant (mother) for years
one proble I see is "contanimation" I have a new comtamination suite - zippered - it yu want ti let me know -- will mail it to you, Know some mushroon growwer that use them also A "sterial enviroment" is need to prevent accidents/screw-ups FYIYeah that’s my thoughts exactly, it would condense a whole mother room into a small manageable space with less care needed. I never thought one could keep them in suspended animation, I thought you get one and start the process of growing it, similar to clones, obviously on a much smaller scale. Time for me to dig in on this research. LOVE learning new stuff?I have made still air boxes before, which I feel would be all that’s really necessary, along with gloves and very sterile technique. There will be some trial and error no doubt but that comes with any new endeavor.
It’s not really suspended animation, they do grow very slow though so they can be kept in small containers for long periods of time.I never thought one could keep them in suspended animation, I thought you get one and start the process of growing it, similar to clones, obviously on a much smaller scale. I have found a couple places selling the kits, I feel like I could piece it all out for cheaper which is why I haven’t pulled the trigger on one.I researched TC a bit last year. I've done tons of sterile work cultivating mushrooms, so that part isn't new to me. With fungi you can get away with dirt cheap ingredients for the plates. It seems that plant tissue culture requires very specific inputs, which is one reason why I haven't given it a shot yet. I was following a thread on another site about homemade TC media, I'll have to check back in on that one. Here's a link to the place I was considering getting a kit from. IIRC this guy had some good instructional videos, too.
