I just wanted to share some snaps of our Montmorency Tart Cherry tree, as she is in FULL bloom!!
I had planned to prune her this winter, and my tree of knowledge dude, told me as I planted this wee seedling 10+ years ago, never cut her during warm weather. Wait for a sever cold spell, say a week or more in duration, then remove what you need to.
This winter here in south central PA, we never got a full week of bitter cold, and zero snow fall this year.
I've pruned her 3 times since I planted it. She is a was a rescue, marked down a few times, naked and huddled behind some blueberry bushes.
I did not fertilize her ever, a few myco tea dumps, over the years.
My area is blessed with an average 36' of topsoil so I find fertilizers , just make an unhealthy root mass, that screams for bugs to come eat them alive.
I gave up all fertilizers use back there maybe 18-19 years ago, and garden after a year or 2 just exploded, without bug decimation.
Just some myco's now and then.
