Wether ignorant, or naive, they have absolutely no social concept of pecking order.
Admirable, to the point where I adopted the screen name. ?
Enjoy

Have you had a breeding pair? Mine killed 4 fish in a day when they paired up. Every other fish was in the opposite corner of the tank. It actually is a pair bonding thing also some use dither fish for that purpose. Very peaceful when not breeding and absolutely beautiful.

Yes, we had a pair for years. The dramatic colour changes were amazing.
They eventually ended up with their own 30 gallon. Still, I had to 1/2 fill it with rubble.
He was still guarding his mate, after she passed.

Very well said. The foundation of a good forum is its community members and the experiences they share.

I hope this place holds onto that mentality. I've been part of many forums over the years (dmtnexus, mycotopia, IC, GC... list goes on) that lost that vision. A forum is a living library. What I've seen in half an hour reminds me of the golden age, and I appreciate the effort put in!

Wow you may know me? This was my last tank. I did many years breeding and planted tanks. Even bred Amano shrimp successfully, that was a challenge. This tank I made an underwater waterfall. I'll see if i can find a vid of it.

And here y'all go with enticing me to sink another couple grand into another project. Those salt water tanks are gorgeous! Plus, I remember exactly where I recognize you from now. You'd engage with Seamaiden in the saltwater tank threads at the farm! Some day... when my kids don't cost as much of a fortune haha.

A forum is a living library.
^EXACTLY. And as such, we should treat it with respect as it's the collective efforts of many individuals that took the time to document and discuss something that we all have a shared interest in. It's one of the main reasons why the site exists today. So if that vision is ever lost, to your point, there would be no real forum. Hence the efforts to establish and maintain the environment that you've so aptly dubbed "the golden age." Although I'm relatively new to participating in forums, I saw the value in them early on as a lurker and eventually a participant.

Welcome aboard. Glad you were able to find us. It sounds like you've been wondering if such a place exists. Well it does, you've found it. Enjoy (y)

It's thanks to @jaguarlax that I found this place.

I started on Overgrow as a punk, snot nosed kid that didn't know dick from asshole, and have forever been in debt. When it was shut down, that was the Dark Ages. Eventually discovered other venues, and moved through many forums over the years.

The value of a forum can be priceless, so long they're run and maintained right.

Most recently, another place that was good for a while lost sight of the purpose once money got involved, which is common in this field, unfortunately.

tl:dr; I'm looking forward to the Renaissance here :D

And y'all trying to make me spend more money with them tanks for sure. The technicality, and beauty are right up on there with once this season wraps up, it's on the to-do. Salt water tanks are better than 23 year old tits.

I saw the frustration and I couldnt hold out any longer on ya... lol.. so far so good over here. I really do enjoy running the tank, its just not really sustainable on this kind of a scale anymore. Especially now. At one point I had over 1000 gallons of water in my house split up between 3 tanks and it was HOURS of work. Never felt like it though. Its just messy for the most anal of people. Thats why I giggle when people challenge me on the carpet in my closet...I aint scared of a couple of gallons of water thats for sure LMAO. I grew up by the ocean so there was always something comforting about keeping a reef in my house. But all the salt water and element dosing gets reallllllly messy. The water upkeep alone is nuts. In my heyday we were chipping in for gas money and throwing an inline pump out in the middle of the ocean. Stores sell that shit for a dollar a gallon. Its good to have friends to help take care of it during the Covid mess, but def time to scale back.

good lookin out @jaguarlax ?

I remember going on that site over a decade ago (wayyyy before I started growing) and I also remember hearing about it getting shut down. I thought others were in similar trouble as well. Different times, I hope all of that BS is behind us for the most part.

We all have the same passion (obsession?) for our craft. That alone is motivation and guidance enough to start with. Everyone with that same spark together, and we create ???

There are certainly opportunities everywhere that can involve business. As long as the focus doesn't stray away from the intended purpose of the site's creation. It takes resources to keep a site running nice, I'm finding this out and learning first hand as I go; the staff and community have been more than encouraging and supportive every step of the way. The momentum is there. Let's keep it going ?

By all means, if you so choose, let's take this private. Without disclosing too much, I'm a PHP software engineer working for the large green energy corporation in the US. I'd love to contribute to scaling, security, etc so long this platform keeps that core vision: everyone with the same spark creating fire. Ping me if you feel I can offer value.

Thank you and will do. Still in veg stages ? but the way the site has been going and with the work going on behind the scenes I am confident we'll hit the after flip "veg-BOOM" stage relatively soon.
