At the back of the yard, we have our 4'x16' raised box that we mostly use for various flowers. It doesn't get as much sun as the two 4'x8's where we're growing various foods.
The English lavender is juuuust starting to bud.

The Spanish lavender is doing very well

These are the two 4x8s that I will be showcasing more throughout the 100 days, but they're just getting started so how about we take a mini tour of my backyard?

This grapefruit tree, my wife got it at work back in 2006, it was just sitting in a pot in the parking lot dying. It gets the MOST DELICIOUS grapefruit on it, literally zero tartness just pure juicy sweetness

it didn't get any fruit for like 5+ years, then one year i hand-pollinated it with q-tips & it's gotten fruit on its own ever since.

Maybe because it's bigger, it buzz-pollinates itself?

I dunno.
This Japanese maple tree "cluster" is my pride & joy. They were little sprigs when we planted them around 2005 or 2006.

It drops an insane amount of seeds every season.
The side yard has a hodgepodge of "overflow" plants, here's a couple hum-dingers, like this pink iceplant. I love this & hope it keeps spreading

I love the color contrast of these grey chalk sticks

This jade we got as a small potted plant from my mother in law as a housewarming gift when we were renting a different house in 2003, we call it a "mission jade" because the story is, ma-in-law snagged a sprig of jade at some mission (i forget which, I think San Juan Capistrano?) probably in the 80s. And now we have pieces of it throughout the yard as well
