Pressing, Curing, Aging

Traditions are the reflection of the power of human observation and the corner stone of evolution, those that stand the test of time should be evaluated scientifically to show that the custom is in fact more than just old meaningless rituals. It is the best practice for the process. I believe the technique of pressing, curing and aging Hashish falls into this category.
Before going further I would like to offer a definition of the word Hashish for our discussion:

Psychoactive drug made from sieving the resin glands of the dried female Cannabis flowers and from pressing them with a source of heat.
From Afghanistan to Morocco, you will commonly find local Hashish smokers actively pressing resin glands before smoking. The various pressing technique applied around the world are all focused on enhancing as much as preserving potency, original aromas and flavors. Hashish quality has been defined by its smell and taste since the dawn of time and science is discovering today the importance of terpenes. The medicinal value of terpenes and aromatherapy is well documented but the terpenes of the cannabis plants were not scientifically studied until it was found that terpenoids profile would help determine the origins of the product in custom seizures.

tell me the secret -- been doing kief and can't make in balls - going to "bubble" tham hash balls are easy to make -- Please tell me your method - have tried Frenchey's method I don't want to press it inpucks
First i dump the kief in a plastic bag. I heat up hot water in a kettle and pour into a jar, put on some oven mits (so I don't burn my hands) and start rolling/pressing it over the plastic bag. I do that for about 5-10 mins, then I cut the bag open and roll that hash into a canolli and it rub into a ball using my hands.

I think either the water your using isn't hot enough, you didn't give it enough time to roll or the kief has too much plant material in it.

I never rolled the kief - I always kept it in the bag !!!! No wonder _ Thanks

You may need to clean up your keif material a little. Take a 160 bubble bag and put it inside a 73 bubblebag. Pour in your kief. Shake yer booty. Take what's on top of the 160 bag and what has fallen through the 73 bag and keep as edible material. What the 73 bag is holding is prime hash.

Put that prime hash in between parchment paper and hot water roll. You may need to add a drop or two of water depending on how dry your kief is.
I prefer the cannoli shape to a ball. The balls look great and all but the cannoli is more practical for me. There is no difference smokewise that I can tell.

lots of info here at ph Hash

The ball is just my preference, it's a little bit harder breaking off pieces but that doesn't both me.

Also thanks for the link, I still have a lot to learn when it comes to making primo hash.

someone told me this: roll kief in a baggie with hot water bottle after a few times then remove it from the baggie and then roll it again with the hot bottle. then you can roll it into balls NO pressing pucks I use dry ice method

have tried it with no luck - thinking of getting a small heated kief press listen to this:
press kief with a kief press (puck)
wrap it in plastic and then in a wet paper towel then wrap whole thing in foil then place in oven at 200-275 for 5-8 minutes then take "puck"out repress it and repeat process another 3 x's thoughts ?

Too much sift maybe? Water needs to be hot. What happens when you roll it?
Sometimes with dry ice sifting it gets the material too dry and it wont roll. I just add a couple of drops of water and re-roll in that case.

like dry ice because it's easier but impossible to make any type of 'hash ball" but with bubble hash the product is wet and need to dry out -- grat idea add a bit of water to the kief to make "hash balls" ??????

Dry ice is great! But........"the nut behind the wheel" is what needs to be controlled....easy to shake it too much. It is fast and clean to do.

If you can't make a ball add the water a drop at time and re-roll. If that does not work, you either shook it too much and got extra leaf matter, or your material does not have the trichs in it needed to ball up. That ice is very drying....give the H2O a shot.
