I'm not sure you'd hear a large Cat.
The earth makes the sound, not the feet

Man that's just sad. The Wolves were here before we were, and just because an animal is sometimes scary, in no way excuses the local extinction we as a species permitted to "feel safer at night"... I mean, I know I say how I want to steal a Wolf and raise it as my own, but that's only because it's totally true. If I could afford to fence in a few square miles of woods, I'd have a pack. Wolves attacking humans is so rare it's ridiculous. It's like how Alligator Gar in the South were essentially put on the "kill on site" list, and they don't attack people unless you're stupid enough to dangle a foot with metal anklets or something in the water. We had a small pack of wolves migrate from southern oregon to nor cal and people lost their f'n minds on both sides.
One was shot in the lower peninsula not long ago, and at first I got all excited because they're finally coming back HERE, but then I read into it, and the guy may have done something illegal. We SHOULD have Wolves where I live, but, you know, "they're scary" so they have to die. Just like how Jaguars used to live in America. Now I have to rob a zoo to pet one.DPW reintroduced wolves here and there have been 3 livestock deaths by them so far. the ranchers get reimbursed though. a few no longer have working tracking collars and I think they found 1 dead a few weeks ago.
That's the Northern Boreal Forest, aka my home. No place I'd rather be.All those Pine Trees
It's beautiful. So beautiful that it's almost a good excuse for not ever visiting LOL.That's the Northern Boreal Forest, aka my home. No place I'd rather be.
You know for me moving water like that scares me way more than the Ocean .@Ramjet159 's photos in the other thread got me looking back though some of my old scenery pics. Here's one from a solo river float a few years back.

Man your knees must have looked like you got a raise! You know for me moving water like that scares me way more than the Ocean .
Your kind of governed in your movements by the water flow .
I got thrown out of a river raft in Bali years ago while riding the rapids . The guide said if you get thrown out . Don’t hang onto the raft , swim to the edge of the bank .
I’m not sure what I didn’t understand about that because I hung on even after being advised . Didn’t take long to figure out why you don’t hang onto the raft . I’m flapping up and down off the back smashing my knees and thighs into the river bed ( 100% rocks ) each blow I’m thinking “ F that hurt , Shit that hurt more , I’m waiting for a bone to crack and then luckily this bloke near me hauls me back into the raft .
Sitting with my knees now yelling at me and I paid for this ?
At the moment I’m starting to check out the price of porridge at the Supermarket. I’m simulating what retirement will eventually feel like but without the financial plan .Man your knees must have looked like you got a raise!

You learn to read it, the same way you read the ocean currents and the skies. You know for me moving water like that scares me way more than the Ocean .
And don't hook into a Sturgeon unless you've ridden a jet ski ? I just can't even imagine trying to hold on with one of those taking off.You learn to read it, the same way you read the ocean currents and the skies.
I don't go on any significant rapids due to
1) being unqualified(I'm a decent paddler but by no means an expert)
2) generally being alone, with no backup
I'll do a class 2 if I'm feeling brave in an inflatable or in a canoe with a good partner.
