The earth makes the sound, not the feet

I meant that the way a cat moves, would likely mute enough of it to be hard to tell. Sort of like how an Owl can be HUGE, and yet the wings barely make any noise as they swoop down on a mouse. If you've ever had a pet cat, and seen them "hunting" a fly in your house, the way they move, is like.... I think "with purpose" would be the best description ? VERY little sound made as they try to get closer and closer, and then out of no where you'll hear some paws pounding the ground as they go for traction, but before that happens, it's almost silent.

We had a small pack of wolves migrate from southern oregon to nor cal and people lost their f'n minds on both sides.
Man that's just sad. The Wolves were here before we were, and just because an animal is sometimes scary, in no way excuses the local extinction we as a species permitted to "feel safer at night"... I mean, I know I say how I want to steal a Wolf and raise it as my own, but that's only because it's totally true. If I could afford to fence in a few square miles of woods, I'd have a pack. Wolves attacking humans is so rare it's ridiculous. It's like how Alligator Gar in the South were essentially put on the "kill on site" list, and they don't attack people unless you're stupid enough to dangle a foot with metal anklets or something in the water.

Can't even imagine how many early serial killers were blamed by Wolves that didn't even attack people. Wolves don't like being near us, like at all, unless they are "tamed" (using that word loosely) and even then, they're likely the ones scared in the encounter.
DPW reintroduced wolves here and there have been 3 livestock deaths by them so far. the ranchers get reimbursed though. a few no longer have working tracking collars and I think they found 1 dead a few weeks ago.
One was shot in the lower peninsula not long ago, and at first I got all excited because they're finally coming back HERE, but then I read into it, and the guy may have done something illegal. We SHOULD have Wolves where I live, but, you know, "they're scary" so they have to die. Just like how Jaguars used to live in America. Now I have to rob a zoo to pet one.

That's the Northern Boreal Forest, aka my home. No place I'd rather be. :)
It's beautiful. So beautiful that it's almost a good excuse for not ever visiting :( LOL.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why you won't go; totally beautiful, and you don't have to deal with a lot of people. Then again neither do I. Few things are more exciting than hearing "the plans to go out have been cancelled" haha.

One of these days I'll annoy you into a visit. Daniel turned it into a personal challenge LOL.

@Ramjet159 's photos in the other thread got me looking back though some of my old scenery pics. Here's one from a solo river float a few years back.

You know for me moving water like that scares me way more than the Ocean .
Your kind of governed in your movements by the water flow .
I got thrown out of a river raft in Bali years ago while riding the rapids . The guide said if you get thrown out . Don’t hang onto the raft , swim to the edge of the bank .
I’m not sure what I didn’t understand about that because I hung on even after being advised . Didn’t take long to figure out why you don’t hang onto the raft . I’m flapping up and down off the back smashing my knees and thighs into the river bed ( 100% rocks ) each blow I’m thinking “ F that hurt , Shit that hurt more , I’m waiting for a bone to crack and then luckily this bloke near me hauls me back into the raft .
Sitting with my knees now yelling at me and I paid for this ?

The accuracy of this map is astounding. Many of the communities have disappeared.
The red dash lines are my favourite, they depict trails that never did become highways.

They filmed some of the Ghostbusters movie in Drumheller and that may lead you to believe that the Empress theater is in Empress Alberta. It is not.

You learn to read it, the same way you read the ocean currents and the skies.
I don't go on any significant rapids due to
1) being unqualified(I'm a decent paddler but by no means an expert)
2) generally being alone, with no backup
I'll do a class 2 if I'm feeling brave in an inflatable or in a canoe with a good partner.

Even for fishing purposes, you need to know what is under the surface and the water motion tells you a lot. Once you learn to recognize back eddies and current breaks and such, it's fairly simple to use that to plot a course over rough water.
That's an important thing too: you need to view the entire white water section and find the safest path before you enter. Just winging it is a recipe for a spill.

This is one of the most dangerous obstacles when boating on flowing water. I imagine you can guess why it's called a "sweeper".

And don't hook into a Sturgeon unless you've ridden a jet ski ? I just can't even imagine trying to hold on with one of those taking off.
