La Llanera a.k.a. Colombian Black

It's finally time I started a proper journal for this preservation attempt of "Llanera" a.k.a. Colombian Black.

@Deebs , If you have any info from wherever you got the beans, feel free to add it in.

I started soaking 5 of the 10 beans on September 17th, just in case I had a hard time germinating.
I had no immediate issues germinating, so I started the remaining 5 beans a few days later.
One of the first 5 (#5) did get a little too tall in it's first few days above soil, fell, and crimped it's stem. It tried to recover for a couple weeks, but ended up dying after a valiant struggle.
Meanwhile, beans #6-10 came up with no major issues. There were a couple that were either slow to pop, or tried to crimp off due to height, but all ended up coming out of their seedling phase strong.
We ended up with 9 of 10 Colombians vegging along nicely for the last 7 or 8 weeks, and they'll be switching to bloom in the next few days.

Here they are as babies, about 2 weeks from soak, on Oct 2... They're sharing space with a few of their grow mates, Gwniver (Blueberry x Tashkurgan) #1-4

These next pics are from Oct 26th, just before moving to the floor for a little late veg stretch session. CB#5 Has died and been removed by now..

Here's a shot from November 1...

Yesterday, November 11, and another pic from this morning. They probably should have gone into flower last week, but they'll head in soon anyway.

The next update should find the gals and guys in flower. Let's see how they streeeetch!

Thanks for checkin in, fellas- Good to have you along!

I'm trying to get caught up on my pH posting I've been meaning to do for weeks, including finally making this thread.
I should get there quicker, now that it's getting colder outside lol
I've also got new testers going of yours, Frim, along with some of Reds to start documenting, etc.

Anyway, Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing how these Colombians do for the next few months, right along with you guys!
They're all in quart sized pots, so hopefully they won't get too unruly...but I've had a couple 2 footers in 6oz cups before, and those weren't even pure Sativa!
It'll be fun (I Hope) to see just how big they'll wanna get, and how long they'll wanna take to finish. And, damnit, they better have a killer uppity buzz...

Damn, thanks, man! I knew I read something about it somewhere. I had to just check and make sure you hadn't already made a thread.

I can hardly wait to see how they turn out in the next 12-18 weeks!
The buzz sounds spot on, but I wonder which phenos to look for, for the best representation...
Probably the "black" ones, huh?

So, if you were running a 12-18 weeker, when would your ideal pollenation window be?
I guess I could theoretically start asap, and keep dusting til like week 8...
Or I could just do 1 dump at some point where I feel I have peak pistil puffs...
My main concern of pollenating wk 3-5 is if they're ripe and bailing out weeks before the plants are done, ending up wherever they roll before I can properly collect them at the end. Also, their overripening within the buds, bracts dying, and possibly sending mold around the bud.
What would you do for the best crop of healthy beans on an extended flower plant??

what a strain hope at some point the genetics (seeds) will be offered. plants look like they have some very good genetics !!!!

Yeah, man, I think(?) that's one purpose of the preservation runs. You'd have to ask @Deebs to be sure though.
I'm hoping to get plenty back to the vault for anyone who wants to take on the challenge.
Almost 2 weeks down, 10-16 weeks and counting!

May be a good question for @kropduster

Or @Skunky Dunk Farms

There are many nuggets of info from his Columbian perseveration, you could use as a starting point.

Just ran through this thread again, thanks. Looks like he basically just let em run wild with each other for a few weeks, and harvested when seeds seemed ripe enough.
I'm gonna have to keep my boys and gals separate, and hand pollenate, as I don't have room for all of them in the boys room, and I'd like the gals to finish as nice as possible over all, to get a fair representation of what they can be when given enough time for the seeds and buds to ripen.
Also gonna try to get cuts of everything, if possible.
Who's gonna start and run the Preservation Clone Vault??

I love the idea, but we would need a full-time clone master to manage it all. It would need to be a rotating position, as no one should wield that much power indefinitely!!!

...And a Pro Tissue Culturist, and a warehouse, and a bunch of equipment... ?
Anyone successfully freeze cuttings for longer term storage than a fridge? Or would the freezing break the cell walls or something?
I know the fridge is a great stasis system though, so I may have to see just how long they'll last with regular water changes.
Too many cuttings need taken, and too little room to run everything at once ?

Seeds take 6 weeks to form. You said 12-18 week plant. So no later then week 5 or 6 for pollination. If you isolating 1 branch or just pollinating one area cut that branch off when the 6 weeks are over.

Good point, thanks!
I'll be pollenating by hand, probably starting around week 3 or 4, depending on how the pistils and pollen are coming.
It will be most of the bud sites, for as many seeds as I can get. I'll just keep an eye on the longer flowering girls, and pick out over-ripening seeds as I see them.
They'll probably fall out on their own along the way too, but since they're in a vertical rack, I think I have an idea to collect them cleanly as they fall.
