Right on, your garden is looking healthy so that’s good. I just saw the little seedlings down in the root riots and thought I’d mention it. Another little thing I’ve found for myself is I get stronger root branching when I put the riots in one of the little seed starter trays. I’m guessing because there is no light there and minimal air to prune them. Hope all is well with y’all. Be safe?✌?
I agree, the tray is almost like a kratky based on what I've see
@Uncle Rom do. I typically get some nice long fishbones, while some grow out the sides and are more prickly. Very minimal maintenance. I think having the tray of water also helps train the roots to keep poking downwards because that's where the water source is. A little top feed in the beginning doesn't hurt either. SOM, if you end up getting a tray, also keep in mind that they can be slightly concave in the middle, causing the slots on the edges to be higher up away from the surface of the water than the middle. This is important because if you don't intend on using all of the slots, then the middle ones are your best bet. Fill the tray with water so it just gets up to 1/4" of water (just covering the bottom of the slot with water). Too much and the rooters stay too soppy/mushy.
There is a difference in Rapid Rooter vs Root Riot. First outlined in a writeup by
@Schwaggy P, I also ended up going down the route of trying Root Riot after only having used Rapid Rooter. I've gone through 150+ of both combined, and my findings were consistent with his writeup. The one thing I will note is Rapid Rooter is a bit bigger and more consistently uniform, while Root Riot is generally the same shape with some oddballs, and smaller, with a much smaller hole. No need to rip a piece to cover the hole, because it will envelop the seed.
