Strains you avoid for whatever reason??

If any of you have chatted with me here on Phenohunter, then you'll know I called the actual cops on the Cheese thread lol jk! No but really. . . Cheese, that's probably the main one I avoid simply because it's unpleasant for me. I'm no snob, I won't refuse it if passed to me & I do acknoweldge that Cheese strains in general, they do rip & pack quite a punch effect-wise.


Ice Cream/Cake strains in general are lookers but not likers; for me, they just seem not to pack much flavor but they do add craaaaaazy amounts of frost to the party. Like, CRAZY frost. Oh and often times gives that "chinese food" high that Cookies usually gives, you're hungry for more within 20 minutes lol!


Choco/chocolate is another that, to me anyways, a couple bland-ish experiences has left me avoiding this category. However, as a home grower i feel like I should revisit growing a chocolate or two for myself. I'm basing this opinion on some poor dispo purchases like 10+ yrs ago, lol.

Headband back in the day used to give me a straight up headache. Green crack, too. I probably haven't smoked either of those since like 07, maybe.

For the most part I'm not a huge subscriber to "this strain does this" or "this strain does that" but I think any of us who pay attention to the overall effects, might say otherwise.


How about you guys?? Anything on your "JUST SAY NO" list??

I don't like anything minty. I wouldn't smoke menthol cigs and I don't want menthol weed. I have 1-1/2 packs of a minty strain in the Vault and it will stay there until I find someone that wants it.

I don't like anything that smells or tastes too much like chemicals, like unnatural heavy perfumes.

If it has too much of a musty smell, my mind tells me it's moldy even if it isn't, and subsequently I can't enjoy it.

As for me I can't nail it down to one strain, I really don't like sativas in general (i prefer the body high that indica's can induce) or strains that give me intrusive thoughts or make me over think innocuous things.

Cool and interesting thread man. I kind of go in waves. I definitely lean more towards the fruity and floral strains but have grown tired of them as of late. Im trying to run some straight up nasty, gassy, skunky and funky stuff this year so I've decided to cross all of my keepers with strains that might stir that profile up a bit. I've got some cheese, hazes and gassers lined up for this year. Should be an interesting year of projects! I can say that the gassier they are, the more "stoned" I get in my experience. Curious to see what others have to say.

I'm with you, my tastes do waver and I'll prefer a thing for a while (fruity/candy) then flip the script & pine for the other thing (funk/foul/GMO/meat). I know i talked mad shit on Cheese but I'll sometimes even window-shop that just to see what's out there

That's a huge NO for me.. perfumey or old school men's cologne even new leather type terps never get harvested..Ive trash bagged quite a few plants/grows...trashed quite a few crayon,playdough smelling plants too..Lifes too short for bullshit ya already know you won't like

Loved the Chinese food reference 👊🏻 Describes exactly what I been trying to say to so many ppl..It's definitely isn't a secret no matter who don't admit it...nothing keeping ya high like the older non cookie stuff.. Only strain i flat out have had multiple problems with is C99. Gives some weird anxiety vibe but body heavy..hates it every time I smoked it..Ran that quite a bit back in the day. Everyone I knew loved it..just rubbed me the wrong way EVERYTIME

I LOVE minty stuff, i grew HSC MountainTop Mint a while back and one plant thru veg had the slightest spearmint vibe but in the end was mostly gassy, still fantastic. If i could find a "spearmint gum" strain I'd be a happy camper.

Oh I've had some FONKY cheeses, even from dispos. Admittedly though I'm not 100% sure if I've had real Exodus even though I know I've purchased it under that name, and legitimacy aside it was still foul 🤣 oh and i haven't fuct w Cheetoz yet

For me it's the perfume ones I will pass on, and the meat ones. Rotting meat smells just don't do it for me, and the perfume cologne heavy ones gag me. Lol
Had a really strong rotted meat one yrs back, had me dry heaving from its funk.
I don't do that easy, pretty strong stomach here, but that thing was foul. Lol.
Like I took some hamburger, mixed it up with some oranges, and left it to sit in the sun a couple of weeks. 🤮🤮🤮

I am with @Amarok. The only weed I have ever grown that was unsmokable, had a musty flav.

I grew it, I cured, it was not my fault.
That plant never saw over 40% humidity from seed to paper.
Just no good.
Moldy bread.
Ever toke tasted like that sandwich that I gagged on and immediately threw away the entire contents of the bread box.
When someone tells me that weed has an 'earthy' flavor, I just assume that is a euphemism for 'tastes like shit'.

Onion, chive, garlic.
Got no use for that either.

Hazes are tough take it long and it seems like not worth the wait IMO don’t get me wrong there are good ones though

Anything Chocolate although Chem Sis (clone) was delicious

Dumpster (Bodhi) should have been Left in the dumpster. After hunting the only keeper was a 88g13 leaner

Pandemic (Katsu) only good one was ogkb leaner 20 seed hunt

I can muster through some funky strains, but I just cant do any minty weed. I grew out Female Seeds "Bubblegummer" some years back and it was ALL mint smell and flavor.
I was like wtf, then I read that was the main pheno being found in them even though they boast a sweet bubblegum skunk flavor and smell. The "free weed" text went out to my closest lol
