I have grown nicotiana sylvestris for a few years, haven't tried to smoke any but want to make a blunt wrap some day. I don't normally smoke blunts so have no idea what makes a good wrap.

Any tips on processing or when and how to harvest would be appreciated. This stuff is like natural stickey traps, the outdoor plants are just coated with crap.

I also have crimson bedder, but that is not nearly as stickey or smelly.

That 2nd video shows something more like what I envisioned. The first one dude talks about how the leaves are cut and tossed on the ground like south of the border brickweed.

I think the whole plant chop and hang was what I was thinking but I like how the process in the 2nd video seemed to flow. I would like to find a washing technique, I gather that's what they are doing when they shake the bunch of leaves.

In my dry dusty climate I think the plant dictates I harvest differently than the large plantations, mostly its just scaling down their processes and I didn't know cigarette tobacco was handled that much differently.

Also kicking around the idea of Malawi style cob variation, though the curing temps seem a bit high.

I notice it looks like they topped the plants or the varietal they are using doesn't produce a flower or they are harvesting before it sets flowers? Also, looks like they have minimal side branching or the planting density could be causing the growth habit?

Watch out there what you have is a flowering tobacco plant while it is one of the parents of smoking tobacco it is advised to not smoke.
I was under the impression it might have been a pipe tobacco. I have not used the common name because in the little research I have done this cultivar was eurofied and relabled.

Not advisable like not palatable or?

If I prevent the flowering or harvest before flower does that change anything.

I dont know if this is what you have or not?

Nicotiana alata (flowering or jasmine tobacco)
Related to the tobacco plants that are grown for smoking, and as a matter of fact thought to be one of the original parents of Nicotiana tabacum (the plant species used in modern tobacco products), because they are reportedly low in nicotine, it is not generally considered for, or used as, a smoking tobacco.

I seem to always have an Izmir volunteer somewhere in the yard every year. Very carefree plant. Never have attempted curing, but have smoked pure Izmir from Cornell & Diehl. Really unique and floral.

A junky Izmir volunteer somehow survived the winter in the side yard.

Have yet to actually process a plant to smoke.
While watching the video below on the Navy Perique method, it occurred to me that a tobacco Malawi Cob might actually work. If I can get motivated, we'll give it a go.

That's super inspiring.
Thanks B, these plants fascinate me and I’m thinking of getting a long ceremonial pipe this year.

I’m thinking the patch needs redone this year. The first year from seed gave me the best leaf, the following years from letting them reseed, has resulted in smaller leafs. I have noticed lots of rogue tobacco plants in my neighborhood during the summer though and it always makes me smile.

Not sure which strain to run this year but if I plan on it, I need to order soon and get them going. I’m happy this thread popped up.

They do spread for sure!
What do you do with your leaves after hanging them?

Ordered a grip of orientals from Victory. Will probably only start one variety for now.
