Isaria fumosoroseus or Beauveria bassiana, that is the question

Hey ya'll. I'm having a real heck of a time with root aphids. I did some digging around here, and have already read the knockout protocol and am hoping to get approval to use those products. As of currently, I only have No Fly (Isaria fumosoroseus), Lost Coast Plant therapy at my disposal, and beneficial insects.

I've read over and over again the praises of Beauveria bassiana in the fight against root aphids, and I remember using it a few years back with solid results. Is one more effective than the other? I'm not loving the No Fly, but I'm thinking it can be improved with a better application method (it was previously threw into an IBC tank and all plants were watered in heavy.)

How long did u start using this product before deciding it’s not helping, just saying it’s not a knockout or instant fix exp for RA.. It takes min 10-14 days to take full effects like botaniguard m key is higher pressure = 3-4 day repeat application.

how is this being applied ? I suggest mixing in Beauveria (botaniguard 22wp ) , venerate (rotate with Grandevo ) and nofly/pfr97 and if ur commerical and need more mode of Ipm mix in met 52 or ogbiowar foliar in too. and I highly suggest to make best cost effective and guratee of 100% saturation is instead of dunking each medium to have a pot tray for each plant. Pre water each pot/medium to almost runoff, as close to runoff with ethier nutes or water only ( no biocontrol). Than have that mix of biocontrols and water in till u see runoff , than let the medium and plant absorb the runoff and whole for min 30min (I do it for 1 hr) than if there’s a lot of runoff suck it up/remove the excess.

i highly suggest adding wetting agent for penetration like yucca agent also, it really does help. if medium is capped or dry, make sure to pre water and make sure that medium can really absorb this. This is another thing when I tried to advise or help people messed up on was not making sure their medium was actually semi moist and if it is to pre-water and than water again till almost runoff

even top dressing insect frass and brewing insect frass also at 1t-1T per gallon with all the other biocontrols also does amazing other modes of ISR and great for Ipm and health of plant .

Key like many pest is getting full coverage and this is why doing what I exploaned of letting the medium get a real long full absorption vs quick dunks/drench. also if u dont pre water/drench man the cost really add’s up if ur anything besides tent. also like a foliar these species work better in less ppfd so do it at low ppfd and not above 80f (2hr ratios of drench )

Hey! Appreciate the response. It was your thread that brought me to this site actually. Your thread is beyond helpful, and really does such a great job breaking everything down.

I've used No Fly personally at a previous place for around two years, this place maybe two months. Used mycotrol/nems/yucca previously, then followed up with a SNS spray and IA on the tables. They've been using it every three days since August or so. Although, they're dumping it into ~150 gallons of water and watering it in that way, plants are not properly hydrated prior, and I don't believe the no fly is mixed adequately either. Going in this morning and adjusting how they're doing the drench to mimic how you outlined for now, but I also have a meeting next week where I will have the opportunity to suggest changes to IPM.

Also are u storing the nofly in fridge? Like pfr97 it last 2x as long if u do. Does the bag have a made/expire date? I know when i bought my pfr97 the company “mistakely” shipped me a bag that was super close to expiring so i demanded a new bag, bastards tried to give me dead and that def can be a issue.

We do not. I didn't even think of that, I'll be sure to check it out. We get a case or so of the buckets, but go through them quickly. I'd say 1-2 buckets a week. They are stored in a cool, dry area

This post is a few months old, but wanted to add the adding a good healthy dose of Nematodes will feed on Root Aphids.
I had a problem this year and was going to apply BioCeres and Nematodes together.
Being that I like to observe progress, I divided 50 million BioLogic's Scanmask Beneficial Nematodes, (Steinernema feltiae) by 36 and released 1,388,888 million Nematodes in each of my 36 4' raised bed outdoors and waited.
In the following weeks there have been no signs of any Root Aphids or other Bag Guys in the Soil, Only finding a healthy amount of worms in the soil.
I'm now using the BoiCeres in a rotational IPM Above Ground.
