Preparing seeds for storage

Imagine that you left a seeded bud in a ziplock bag.
Now imagine that you forgot about it until it molded - buds actually appear passable, but the stems are white and fuzzy

Q.
Can I wash these seeds, without germinating them ?

What products and strategies should I employ?

Plain old water? Dish soap? Bleach? Alcohol?
Dry bath? Bentonite, DE?

'Touch' of mold. No way I would smoke the buds, but I am thinking the seeds are still viable.

I should at least buff them up in a cotton dish rag, or something ?

Just pulling this out of the air after a bit of thought: maybe a rub with salt? The fine sharp grains would act as an abrasive while the sodium could provide some antimicrobial effect and even the desiccant action could be a benefit.

Personally I would avoid any moisture. It could feed any fungal/mold crap and maybe kickstart germination.

Again, this is just random thoughts.

H202? A light touch to kill bacteria but not germinate. I'd do it out in the sun so there Is little chance if germ kick starting... thinking of the lo ger the dark moist to start. Out in the sun opposite? Quite the question pondering there mate

I wouldn't add any moisture.
Separate seeds from the plant matter, set out in area with air flow or in the sun briefly, then let dry at room temp with air flow around for a couple weeks and should be fine... Mold should die off or minimize on its own when it fully dries, I think.

No more water, I like @LG/ 's idea. I've used my simple food dehydrator on the lowest heat or no heat at all. I wiped them down with a dry fuzzy cotton rag, left them out in the open air for 2 days and then store them as always, no problem in my situation. Good luck.

I have a reliable, thoughtful, and helpful network; that part makes me extra'specially happy.

Those buds just needed one more burp. They were smokable dry, but I should have kept a closer eye on them.
Flowers come and go, but the beans they are holding are unreplaceable.

I was curious about wet treatments as a dust arrestor. Flocking agent. What have you.
Okay I lied about the Ziploc part. We are talking about six lunch bags in a 5 gallon pail. Bone dry
I am considering mashing the bags while they are still closed. I could tear off a bottom corner and harvest concentrated piles of fluff and seeds.

I suppose it just comes down to rolling up my sleeves and turning up my nose. At some point the pondering will become procrastinating.

After you get the courage to get at them seeds. Maybe keep them in some cinnamon for a bit? Pretty sure it has some antifungal properties. Can mold get inside the seed and destroy the life inside? I wouldn't think so.

At some point, I would have to assume so.

In the nature, they are overwintering down in the danky mulch, there are germination triggers, but I imagine there are built-in defenses as well.

As the story goes, somebody discovered spinosad, because they dug it out of the dirt in an abandoned refinery?

Tells me the stuff can propagate in soil.
What could I do in order to have it reproduce in my soil?

I put a little Beauv. Bass., on my seeds and I noticed positive results. Was that the direct action of the individuals that I applied, or did they set up camp there and do some stuff?

1) Let the seeds dry
2) After dry put them in a jar 1/2 filled with uncooked rice. Shake hard
3) Separate. Store your seeds away from any moisture

They will be fine. Mold can't live dry and it's not going to do anything to the seeds.

Doing light dep pollinations under a barrel in mid summer...yeah those buds might get moldy They could even sprout in place if they are kept wet enough. They will withstand a good bit of mold or rot on the buds as long as it's not dripping wet and continuous.

I get that dust from vegetable seeds that I have put in a closed jar too soon. If you are getting that white dust onslaught......toss that weed out.

They were put away and sealed too wet.

I once saw a vibrating bowl full of Walnut shells, utilized for buffing spent shell casings.
I had a frisbee full of dry play sand and I was heading for my palm sander, when I thought to myself,
' this seems like a lot of work.'

Ended up doing everything by hand. Buff them up with a cotton towel and squirreled them away.

If you use a touch of h2o2 when germinating them it will take care of any lingering spores.
