PSA for anybody using bat guano

"Commercial biofertilizers containing bat guano should be tested for H capsulatum before reaching the market,” they shared.

Considering the geographic proximity, could it be theorized that the fungus was cultured spontaneously ?

That is to say, could that guy have bought a clean bag, which later became a breeding ground?

If I hold on to cheese for too long, it becomes moldy.
Was that mold detectable in said cheese, from the factory?
Or did I introduce and grow it here?

the story on the radio ( i didn't read that link) was that 1 guy bought a bag of it online and the other guy had bats in his attic and a "considerable" amount of bat guano on the floor of the attic.

all of the scientific mold stuff is wayyyy out of my wheelhouse. lol

I think it's the kind of thing that won't kill large numbers but it will pick off a guy here and another there, and make others sick but they recover. So don't any of us be one of those guys.

It's not just bat crap, it's anything with feathers. Keep the coop clean, or the cage. Don't let it build up or lay around long, and a dust mask and goggles is a good idea when cleaning it up. First learned of it lotsa years ago when I was painting. I had to see an eye specialist for abraded cornea, he was looking in my eye and found the ocular version of it, histoplasmosis, affects the blood vessels in the eye I believe. Can blind you over time, definitely adverse.

I had a touch of it but iirc he said it wasn't active (?) apparently I'd had it and my body fought it off but he could see the damage it had done. There was bird crap all over a lot of the kind of things I painted in those days, industrial shit, it gets to you through the airborne dust just like the inhaled version which typically might take forever to kill you by itself, but the problem is you have it working away on you and then get some secondary infection like influenza, covid or pneumonia, you're already vulnerable because of the histo infection and the secondary infection you pick up is the one that kills you.

So watch out for that dust folks in your grows and coops. In the southwest there's also hantavirus from rodent crap, does basically the same thing I don't think it has an eye version.

Bad to sniff it? Sure but This is same argument when someone would say u can’t eat grocery store or commerical lettus or ground beef. how many eat to how many hurt? Just because someone got sick or died (math of use /death) prolly more people die of bad air to really bad things byb% over that. I’m good and when ur doing organics the natrual filters before intaked even if it had heavy metals or contaminates makes organics very self protected in that aspect aka humic acid to fungi relationship. this is same thing is why if u buy anothing why they gotta warn u not to put a plastic bag on ur head or if it gets ingested u will have issues, it’s a big ol duh but do they gotta warn ? Sure 👍🏿

what I care about on bat guano or many alive things is mistreatment or over harvesting

Apparently I had (have ?) it in my lungs, as they've learned since then that it spreads to your eyes from your lungs. Lots of people in this part of the country have it and have no symptoms and with most it never gets bad enough by itself to kill you. It's just a liability that you carry making yourself more susceptible to acquiring and being harmed by some secondary respiratory infection which are abundant in the todays world.

Most of my plants got more bird shit on them than normal this past season because of the tight cages I had on them. Now that the season is over I've asked myself if I really want to use those cages again because of shit like this and bird flu. I totally get why a committed organic grower would say that this is not something they would ever abandon organic practices over, and it doesn't need to be that. On the other hand for people older than 55 and/or taking certain meds, a little caution might not hurt when handling 100% bat crap, or keeping a coop going.

even soil or anything organic to non if going into lungs def can be a bad thing so if it’s dusty it’s def bad to be breathing in obviously . I suggest turning off fans , if outdoors don’t do it when windy. predrench/water medium so when u top-dress the matieral will stick. I also know people get too feisty with trying to spread to quickly and if it’s super refined down u can literally make clouds of dust So I highly suggest taking ur time with tht and if u can wear a organic material respiratory, I have a full face for both grow rooms for Ipm to top dressing and it gives super ease u won’t have that stuff in ur face. it’s not the specifics like anything cause if it gets into ur lungs it’s def a bad thing (even dirt). also with many organics they also sell a granular version and I also will pick that and reduce my fast release.
after seeing what my coverall/3m suites look like weekly and the filters for my respiratory I know fosure I wouldn’t be not using them and ppe is def key even if ur not doing organics . Prevention is key and doing it proper makes world diff cause people a lot of time once they get the health issues occurring that’s only time they care or willing to be doing the protection/ppe. it’s not hard and for me gives me a extra ease and anti stress I won’t get hurt just like I wear safety glasses to construcrion helmet while working

guano’s wise bats diet is quite good and giving they eat bugs it gives a extra chitin boost to fruit and veggies . feed ur plants cows or majority of sea and tell me it’s more safe

I just thinking we're talking about a couple of yokels who probably over-heavily top dressed with batshit, which then rotted the buds. Then they dried and smoked those buds.

I don't think it had anything to do with root uptake, so much as piling shit onto substrate and then the lowest buds getting infected 🤷‍♂️

One guy had bats living in his attic, that's where he got his guano. Growing weed killed him, yeah right. Sorry for the rant but it's ridiculous the slant some will put on things to fit their opinions.

I wonder if there's a way to find out what strain these guys were running :ROFLMAO:

Tokable Fungus Death ?

There's no telling how reckless he may have been as far as stirring up a dusty ass mess, or if he had used any kind of ppe. Fuck for all we know they got stoned and accidentally packed a bowl with bat shit instead of bud. I feel kinda bad for saying it y'know, I mean they're dead but people will do some dumb shit.
