Under canopy LED’s

I guess sellers are trying to catch the next wave, price is steep.
I’m looking at disassembling this fixture to possibly try some under canopy lighting…..because I’m bored? :stoned:
These are 50 watt Atrium ARA20 strips 2’ long.
I emailed Atrium to see what they had to say, we’ll see?
The light spectrum top or bottom would be the same?
Without climate control, I’m wondering about temps?
I can fab some stands to support the strips, but I think power is the biggest concern in regards to moisture and securing waterproof connections?
I don’t spray stuff, so that’s not an issue. Micro spike watering coco.
There is a light behind this in the pic, looks weird.IMG_5575.jpeg

My general opinion on the matter:

Light is light, and more brightness = more (potential for) performance, as it pertains to indoor growing. If it comes from the top or the bottom, it's brightening the space which in & of itself is the end benefit.

However, leaves don't really photosynthesize from the undersides, but what you might be doing is causing a warmer overall leaf surface temp by having light-heat radiate upwards into the leaves 🤷‍♂️

I still think side-lighting should be of more focus and potential benefit than underside lighting. Just my 2 cents as a hobbyist and enthusiast 👍❤️

actually that’s a cannabis bro sci myth ( no diss) . it’s more plant species specific and cannabis does input from bottom and top and underneath the leaf , mi gro and Bruce b + other videos on under canopy did answer that question and said it was def inputted underneath leafs of cannabis

edit: my views is I def wanna wait it out and see how good they do and what ppfd/spectrum’s and methods is best. For me it’s the placement and if I move a plant that led is in way lol

Buddy of mine runs a decent size grow op with 4 rooms, all the same cut, and recently set one of them up with under canopy lighting along with hitting the plants with some far red. That room produces more weight and manages to finish about a week sooner than the others. Seems to work pretty well for him.

"move a plant and that LED is in way" mine was always in my way, and in my eyes! I stopped doing it from below or the side, hard enough with the uvb lights from migrow in my way cause their poor design doesn't let you angle them or really do much. Their clips are kind of scary-weak...have to be careful to not bang the glass uvb tube...and they have to be higher than I place my LED' lights so then become kind of pointless as they block the light... so i have to put them at a 45 degree off to the side and jimmy rig them to be at a 45 angle. I plan to drill the alluminum for a better custom mounting option on them.

I may do under/side canopy lighting again, just honestly easier to not deal with them personally, makes me less enthusiastic about foliar feeding too...getting them wet /cleaning them vs moving them each time..if I do undercanopy again it'll be with something like an Iionbeam from ACi that i can casually set down on the soil bed upside down, then maybe remove and dangle off a nail while I foliar/water. Something really lightweight/waterproof, maybe better pricepoint than ionbeams.

I don't think anything is worth the cost anymore, considering it cost more to grow indoors than buy now if you have a license and know who to buy from. The only way to make a minimum amount of profit is greenhouse or outdoor. Just the facts of this marketplace. I can purchase quality pounds for 350 greenhouse out of San Diego legally and excellent quality. Only growing a 5x10 from here on our till market changes if it ever does. Just can't justify loosing money and putting in the hard work for nothing. I'm focusing on day trading now, not growing. I will probably just do a 5x5 for fun in near future unless things change. I'm 57 now and need to focus on monetary return not growing for the sake of growing. Cheers

need to focus on monetary return
i'm a couple hours from Denver but it seems like shrooms are gonna be the next big thing there. they still seem on the down low as only at compassionate caregivers can give them away for donations I think???

until a bunch of people from Kansas or Iowa decide they can fly off the Hyatt rooftop deck in downtown. those yokels ruin everything! lol

There are shops in DC and MD where they sell not only chocolate shrooms bars, but also shrooms dehydrated. It's illegal but sees no enforcement yet. DC has cracked down on non liscenced cannabis shops though.

Yeah same in Baltimore city, they have given up on street dealers, mostly target larger local gang dealers, where I live in West Baltimore, it is a war zone, I have become immune to gun shots, people being shot, domestic violence, pimp and ho violence, etc. This place is incredibly cheap to live if you own a house, but the quality of life is beyond terrible, and makes living cheap not worth it. I have probably 4 more yrs of this hole, then can get the heck out. One thing this place has given me is a hardcore education on the real hood, it's people, and it's continuous blight. It's taken a piece of my heart, my soul, and I'm sure, a few years off my life. Cheers Chef

Miami mango had some great videos about this. I think grandmaster led is onto it aswell.
I saw magotech garage he kitted out with side lights years ago. Now his tech on inner canopy lights looks pretty good.
