Valley View 2025

Chopped the male today, there wasn't a whole lotta budsites on the GB except for one of the "green" ones (not selected as purple in the spring)

The male (GB) was dumpping pretty good and the A90 was getting heavilly seeded. Of the two I am preferring plant 1 for the out cross.

Question - In cross or out cross? - Is it out cross if using a male from the strain that will continue i.e. a mother GB from one and it gets pollinated by a male selected from the A90 x GB f1 generation? Is the term in cross then used when an outside male is used? i.e. I make f2s of the A90 x GB?
The more I think about it the more circular the argument is becoming 😆

The other GB f1s

A90 the thinner colas are plant 1, thicker are plant 2

A90 plant 2

Looks like this one was out of range, msybe 30ft or so.

The one down in the dog pen is still undecided, I think I saw a set of pistils yesterday tho, migh have to get magnification out today. The plant likely won't finish proper tho.

I know you expect it but man, that would crush me, never been good with loss. Glad to see some still standing.

Y'all know that voice in the back of yer head "take a cut ya dumb mfr"?

Luckilly I listend to that voice a few days ago and took cuts of the dog pen plant 20250823_183246.jpg
Hopefully they root, didn't have any rooting compound, just kln.

Looks like 2 of the GB have a shot a finishing, 2 will take at leas a bit of cooperation from mother nature.

The Afgaan90 should be able to walk it in.

Picked up a local cut of Mac 'n Cheese after doing a tour of Seed and Smith. Looks like my first fall run might be set with a few cuts of it and a couple of the dog pen plant. Provided they pass quarntine.

Cold temps, several nights ago it dropped to 38F but seems like forcast has us in the 50's for a while. Soil temp was just above 50F the other day.
Looks like mostly preflower seeds on the GB.

Afgaan90 starting to fade.

Hopefully temps hold and things pick back up. Just watered for the first time in weeks this morning.

Remember these?

That was a little over a month ago.

Was a bit worried about dead material but so far everything is looking okay. Gonna be close here the next 3-4 weeks but for now things are holding.

Got a gg4 pheno in the gorilla bubble.

Had to cull most of the Afgaan90 due to aphid pressure. Hope this cross works for outdoor next summer.

She's pretty well done but the seeds are still a little pale so she's gonna sit.

Fairly decent frost last night, jad to scrape the windshield this morning. Getting the shed reset with some new flooring and come to find one of my dehumidifiers is barely working if at all.

Even though I have downsized to one 3x3 bed the one can't keep up on just a humid day without any plants going. Debated what to go with knowing the one I have is older than the one that failed, I figure keeping the system the same was a loosers game so I upgraded to a single 55 pint.

I don't think I'll get much more than seeds from the outdoor this year which is fine, really looking forward to sifting through the gb f2s. I'll just be starting the shed sooner than I wanted.

I would like to find a way to manage a decent crop outdoor, I can do it just more effort than I'm willing to put in. Would be nice to have an automated hail protection system but for now I'll be going back to the white/transparent hail net because the red shade cloth just blocks too much light 30% vs ~20% iirc.

Dialing in, is an ongoing process. Love to see your progress on seed making and gardening!

Forcast has first actual freezing temp temps 12 days out.

Did a little clean up on the gb today two that have a generic nose the sour/gg4 one and a sweet one.

This one needs more than 12 days for sure.

Smells great and I'm glad I took cuts. They are taking their time revegging so I switched them to 20/4.

Also got confirmed roots on Mac 'n Cheese.

I am actually very happy with this year's crop. The water restriction definitely impacted the quantity but the quality is looking pretty good. The last expected hurdle is tonight's wind and the possibility of a windy harvest.

Having a hard time deciding if I wanna jump right in to the Gorilla Bubble f2s or revisit the F1s? Maybe I'll pop both, lol.

For reference photo is from North side of plot, plants are numbered 1-4 from the south.

Least mature, sweet baked goods like nose.

I would call this the GG4 pheno, favorite so far, sweeter than the original

Most generic of the bunch, still nice but not loud.

The sour pheno.

The attempt at selecting purple in the seedling stage was only moderately sucrssful in that the most purple plant (No.3) was not one selected during the seedling stage. The male was definitely purple but its possible that was more a result of the water restriciction and a corresponding lack of nutrient uptake. The ability to select for green by choosing the seedlings that don't show purple under cold stress seems to hold tho.

Gonna do a 3 bucket bud wash, 1st bucket Zerotol, then 2x clean. Usually do ~15-30 seconds of light "swooshing" and shake the excess.
