@sandman83 did you poop emoji cilantro?? Are you one of those people with broken tastebuds that it tastes like soap for? Cause I feel so bad for those people. All of my favorite cuisines are heavy on the cilantro

I did indeed, can't stand that soapy stuff!! You are welcome to my share. its ok if its mixed in? but some places seem to think throwing the whole branch down constitutes "decoration".

Haha I get ya, but I dont think they intend it as a decoration. I love a heap of fresh cilantro on a tostada, floating in my pho or garnishing a good vindaloo. Those of us that dont taste soap get a nice, citrusy, fresh, herbacious garnish to balance all the fat and spice in those dishes.

Anyways, I am sorry you have to miss out. I assume theres a bunch of beers you intensely dislike too. All of my friends who cant eat cilantro have the same reaction to many of my favorite IPAs.

Yeah, the cilantro thing is tied towards a gene that makes aldehydes taste stronger or soapy, and both cilantro and hoppy beers are high in aldehydes.

Ive read that crushing cilantro leaves actually reduces the soapy taste for some reason, which may be why its less offensive when its mixed in. A friend of mine does it when he makes pico because his wife insists on there being cilantro but he hates it and says it does seem to help.

For those it is usually ones with coriander as a brewing spice. Coriander = cilantro seed.
I dont want to completely bury Willie's thread here but funny enough most people who dislike cilantro have no issue with coriander, because its not an allergy. The aldehydes break down when the seeds are dried so the soapy taste goes away. When it comes to the beers its because of a different aldehyde chain that forms during the formation of hops, especially in those piney, ultra bitter west coast ipas.

The good news though is studies suggest people can grow out of it!

Thanks for the nudge on the term aldehyde and the flashback to high school biochem. My fav teacher passed around a taste test w little tabs. A guy at my table tasted one and said all loud (butter beer face n all), “THIS TASTES LIKE STOUT BEER!!!” and all the kids said, “How do YOU know???” (Gotta love the D.A.R.E. Times 😂) I mean like this is coming from the guy who is wearing a White Sox hat w the O sharpied to look like an E so it said SEX howTF do you think he knows lol
He tagged up a paper Too $hort then rolled it up and passed it to me like a joint. I didn’t schmoke yet but we actually became good friends lol. Lost contact w him though

LOL! The only place I didn't get dirty looks. I loved that show personally.

Everything thinks Cheese is missing :)

@Willie

IS the other ingredient shown, or ?

There's what could be a little rice grain in one part, but it's really hard to tell. There's also a few spots that look like some sort of oil is on there...
No, you can't see it in that pic. :)

Well, they’re probably not the poppers you’re making, but my guess is chicken, because it reminds me of the ones I love...
Half a pepper, as the boat, then a slice of onion, cheese, chicken, wrapped in bacon, baked or grilled about the same time and temp.

Ok I gotta put this in here but not cuz of Billy lol 😂

Would bleu (blue?) cheese work on jalapeño poppers? Years ago I despised it then at work a girl invited me to try a Cobb salad that had bleu cheese. I was like nah and she insisted. Loved it ever since.
