No jumping out of trees for me please. I'll watch you go for it though. Lol.
I'll even video it to post up here for ya on the what did I do today thread.
Naw, I don't need the attention that would bring. I'm already sexy, I don't need fame or fortune. :carlton:

Ever see Shrek?

BTW, just did the math.
At a max speed of 35 mph and a presumed distance of ~100 feet, that grizzly was maybe 2 seconds from SSG. That's one fumbled door handle away from a very bad day.

Also, holy crap, is calling and texting to an international number expensive. I'm glad I'm not paying @SSGrower 's cel bill.

Dude, wel literally saw armless utility poles at Cecil's homestead.

Cecil is what we would refer to as a Homesteader, Drylander, Hold out, Dust Bunny, or a Prairie Chicken. These are retired folks, who live in the middle of nowhere, living off of rental income or oil field income. He is at least an hour's drive from cardlock fuel or groceries.
I met a similarly situated woman, about 25 years ago, in the Cypress Hills. She fully expected to be snowed in and confined in her home ( with her Nine Weimaraners) from December to February.

SS spotted the poles. I incorrectly assumed they were phone landline poles.

Further investigation revealed a Transformer hanging off of the last one.
I don't know much about electricity, but I eventually concluded it was either a twisted wire, or he was running off of Edison's direct current. 😏

My wife and I met cecil, about 15 years ago, in that same spot. Judging by the stains, he may have been wearing the same shirt at the time.
Cecil informed us that after experiencing a heart attack last year , chewing aspirin and waiting over an hour for an ambulance, he has decided to sell, and move to a nearby Village.
I was really glad that SS got a chance to meet one of the few remaining Sentinels of the Badlands.

I parked my Honda at Cecil's, and we made our way out onto the Prairie in SS's truck. Turned out to be a wise decision, as that trail was absolutely greasy on the journey back.

Dennis the Menace could not have left a better Trail. We wandered Westward along the rim for about 3 hours.

I was not carrying gps, although after Consulting my photos against the satellite imaging, I believe we set Camp here. Capture+_2023-06-08-15-32-44_(1).png

Quit hunting decades ago after some drug felonies made it an unsafe hobby to continue. Have recently taken up the bow though, that's been fun. Not for deer or elk, but fishing with it, and just having fun just shooting.

Last summer I set up an archery range in the backyard to shoot at home. About 80 ft. if shot full length of the yard from the house.
This summer we'll be learning to bow fish on some of our outings.
See now I need a pond like you and I'll bow fish at home. Lol

You know that in Michigan you can get that cleared right? :)

Two resident Cacti around here.

We saw yellow Pricklypear blooms.

Pincushion are just as mean. Growing flush to the ground, they become more difficult to spot.
SS and I never saw any in bloom, however, when I returned home they were bust'n out everywhere.

I cropped these photos, but did not edit.
They are just that vivid.

Later in the season these will produce a fruit that is buried inside the dome. If you get very brave you can pluck them out and eat them.

3970 mi. Wow!

that trail was absolutely greasy on the journey back.
The wind and rain that morning was something else! My tent was collapsing and my arms were getting tired of holding the poles up, luckily @Jewels torch cooked us a ribeye to perfection on a camp pan and it was the exact thing I needed to give me the energy. I was well taken care of on my arrival, the adventure was real.

Must have been a foot (an inch or two atleast) of rain between what fell overnight and throughout the morning. The hike out was nice and cool and we got to watch the clouds lift just a little out of the milk river valley and could just see the silhouette of foothills in the distance.

We walked the trails of Writing on Stone Provencal Park and had wonderful encounters with the animals, plants and landscape.

After parting ways with J I headed towards Drumheller and the Royal Tyrell dinosaur museum but not before overnighting (and drying out) in Tabor.I need to download the pics from my camera, I'll post up the best.

Then there was meeting up with @Amarok in rocky mountain house Nordegg the mine tour, normally I wouldn't think of doing tours and museums but really glad I did.

Haven't gone fishing more than 2 or 3 times in the last 15 years and to see the variety of fish we pulled out of one river was astonishing to me.

The bear!

Time for dinner, missed my wife and dog.

Glad you're safe :) that's a looooong trip. I've done Michigan to Quebec more times than a care to count. Your hands must be cramped up man.

Great to hear you are home safely, my friend.

Yeah, I grew up near Nordegg and learned so much stuff I'd never known before the tour. The story of the explosion and all the deaths just pissed me off so much, but just the whole story of the community was so interesting.

The night on the Blackstone river was cool. Hiking along the river, trying to figure out tracks, wondering if the bears would get you overnight...

Not my vid, but this is where we were.

Again, so sorry we couldn't put you on a dinosaur, but I did my best. I hope at least seeing one, and catching the other species, made up for it a bit.
It was cool to show off my Shabby Little Kingdom(TM) ;), my pond, etc. . You are welcome any time.

Edson was evacuated again due to fire, btw. Figured I'd mention it since you now have a frame of reference.

You know we have TV show worthy Sturgeon fishing with the smell of Quebec on fire literally right now right? :( lol.

I was able to hit the Medalta factory museum too

Got some ideas for how to build bigger pots after seeing their tooling and methods.

As for the deer signs, if anyone cares, I think they are just different manufacturers cause I notice the same subtle differences coming back through the states. Jumping deer vs. Standing deer.
Again, so sorry

If you lived here you could likely get it removed. In law had a felony from back in the day but it's been expunged. Mine should qualify soon too. Non violent drug felonies, after some time, can be expunged here. Guess you'll have to pack up and try huh lol.
Doesn't work that ways, wish it did, be so much easier.
Have to go to each state where you have a felony and petition them to expunge it. Then when you have that paperwork you can be legit for the feds to clear you in their database.
Me I was a young adventurous drug addict that got popped in a couple states for dope. Lol.

K.
Believe it or not, this guy ( Tony) was our next door neighbor , [Smalltowne, AB] most my childhood. I still recall the first time I ever met him, he was the guy building the house in the empty lot next door.
He comes running around the corner one day and says, 'hey -have you kids ever seen a badger ? '
😁
He had one cornered in the cement footing for his new fence.

,,, and this write up is stale.

Like a lot of retired 'Wheat Kings' Tony spent his spare time going to farm/estate auctions.
It was his wife , Esther, who was accumulating the pottery.

The Collection was truly donated in her honour, after she passed.
Tony made a big stink, and they started relabeling everything in her name.

@SSGrower Remember the story I told you of Body Bob?

Looks like somebody else had a pretty horrific day on the river. I'm so glad it wasn't us that found this poor kid.
His corpse was floating down the same stretch we were fishing, so it could have easily been us. He was pulled out just downstream.

Rest in peace.

Sadly, that's part of living near a river.
People are aware it happened, no commotion. We just give a thought to the dead and their loved ones, and remind ourselves to always be careful.
Makes some sense now why they closed those reservoirs? they were getting plugged with bodies from YEG.

Have you heard those birds at dawn/dusk/low light yet?
