Root Aphids

So if it is chop and burn time is it safe to dip a freshly cut clone in some canna control or greencleaner before the aloe then plug or even dip while the stem is in the aloe filet, I can air dry em for a sec while they take up some aloe then go into the root riots, just really not wanting to lose my okemon and recently found igrh moms in assuming everything innthat tent is infected

Well it would appear I've been fooled again it is just another type of springtail found this out via the DGC discord lol awesome community the dgc is

Your Phenohunter fam alerted you before the discord. Look at the link in my previous comment ?

So apparently I've got 3 varietals of springtail in my shit and everything I've tried does nothing to them and there is no way rove beetles are gonna eat all of them there's a shitload in there and apparently they are immune to nematodes as well, BTI does nothing and a total dry back is gonna spike my ec through the roof, surfactants maybe?? Predator mites??? I'm tired of bug stress ????? not been a huge issue till this last run and some would say springtails are a sign of a healthy rhizosphere so 3 kinds means im super good right ??? ???? sorry multiple large dabs were killed during the planning of this message, 2 times thinking im gonna have to chop an burn was killin me ? ? ?

okay the bug expert ( Eric @ EG ]) replied back:

"
Hi,

My first thought was root aphid, but I'm not super confident in that. In the second picture it almost looks like some kind of beetle.

Can you tell me a bit more about their behavior and where you are finding them? Do any of them fly? Any particular markings (they just look pure black in the pics). Do they have little "tailpipes" on their rear ends?"

answer the questions he requested for a more in-depth answer if he can .if you could get a full body and multi views of it on a picture. that def would help.

So they are all over the soil surface found a few crawling on the stalk, no fliers and no tailpipes and they appear to have little ridges on their upper backs, and these pics are the best we can get with an iPhone and 15x macro lens they are pretty small, and definitely capable of jumping, had a nice treasured convo last night with the bug lady Suzanne, and from the legends mouth "aphids don't jump" it would appear im just a regular springtail farmer lol and seriously @BH THANK YOU FOR HELPING WITH THIS, being lucky for 3 years and not having bug issues has left me lacking and panicky when it comes to the crawlers in our soils

FYI --needed some cheap soil got Mircale grow organic and that dam soil was infested (generally use Ocean Blend and Happy Frog Never NO issues untill I infested it with that cheap soil, only have at the most 2 weeks left - can't wait to throw that soil out, was planiing to re-use some of it because of microbes - NO way have to invest in soil again (spending $50.00 +)

This mix is just baled coco rinsed and buffered and perlite at 70/30 it was kept indoors rinsed and buffered and used again this run with 50% fresh and 50% used but im sure it was clean, ivd yet to buy any pre mixed soils for indoor for this exact reason I've heard all the horror stories about bad batches, being too hot, and or insects of various sorts coming in with bagged mixes I've always been too sketched to trust the big manufacturers I run too little plants to be having any disasters ? ? ?

Eric bug expert emailed back, good news!

This is why I always recommend to get ID confirms and a 2nd view from people who all they do for their job is this and IPM advisory!

"
Hi,

So I think this is some type of springtail/Collembola. I doubt it is dangerous to your plants unless there are an absolute ton of them. "

Well there are a lot of them lol but as long as they aren't aphids I'm a happy camper, ill continue with the dr zymes till the rove beetles get here and hope they can put a dent in them if not ill just clone em outta the current soil and into some fresh

I would suggest to not drench via dr Zyme (unless u see RA or other bad pest) your medium and apply rove beetles, being they are so nice as a ip[m for many medium. based issues none the less.

reason why im not suggesting drenching since just springtails is because I have never seen any commercial or cannabis related really go into ipm for just that . Thing is applying dr Zymes not only is Gonnea kill ur beneficial bugs like rove beetles and misc good bugs and so forth. its expensive per gallon. so I would suggest using drench rpm's and that sort of stuff if u see a bad bug and need a "knockout" and ipm based on such. having a good cement ipm for ur medium is good to not have the issues with so many pest like RA to FG. majority of the time people don't realize the issue is there till the issue is not winnable, so having such predators and IPM for biological defenses is effective and ease of mind.

key with springtails is they are part of the organic breakdown circle of life, so why mess with that?

@BH does the bug expert have any recommendations on keeping them down and or ridding them permanently

I will email him these questions but my guess is he will ask how much population u have. before emailing him, explain how many u are seeing to think there's a major population? just trying to get the bug expert the best info they can get so the answer is worthy/accurate.
