Sexing ?

It seems every time I determine thesex in tents they grow so tall by the time it gets into flower it’s big I have to bend branches and stuff !! I usually top them when they hit 27” any input on a better way to sex or just should I top smaller? I like to give them a week or two after topping to not stress too hard in between Veg and Flower. Any input would be greatly appreciated 😊 First time tent grower here IMG_9208.jpeg

I top really early just so I can see what kind of growth I'm going to get and then if I have to top again I do so with the taller ones. Hope that helps

I’m learning my lessons on this know. Do you think to top them down to about 20” right now ? Or will that freak them out too much ? I only have 8ft. tents not including the 6” to 1ft. Light I have hanging

Can you flip them now? You will find out the sex fairly fast and what you keep shouldn't exceed your height.

This brings up a great question...I have grappled with this for many years. I have read some plants don't do well with topping but...I often have too...how many nodes until topping? Would love to know the best time to top. Because indoors I prefere to run clones. But due to my stoned paranoia I don't don't top often...I end up bending like crazy...I used to really enjoy the bends but as I get older...it hurts in the morning lol.

Farmer Freeman offers sex testing kits at about $10 a plant. Usually takes less then a week to get the results. Other then that you usually have to let them get mature enough to throw pre-flowers or force flower them to determine sex. Rull of thumb since beginning of bro science on toppings was 4th to 6th node. Below 4 and you'll limit branching and probably stunt the ole girl.

tbh this time, I'm sexing the seed starts then restarting with clones from those plants. Already got 2 males identified.
Sometimes that's the best option, ive had to do that more than a few times. Even more so when you start popping a wide variety of strains like I always end up doing...... it gets tiring trying to keep and even canopy with that many seeds. I like taking clones from the seed plants and getting rid of the mother after the clones root. It's a fresh start and It's also nice to have atleast an decent idea how they each will stretch when the clones get flipped.

I like to take a clone (top) as soon as I can, then toss the rooted clone into flower. Leave the topped plants in veg until sex shows on the clones.

I would top each one now and clone them. I would take an additional clone if your clone game isn't good. Flip the next day. On day 9 they should start showing sex.

if you subscribe to the subcool method of old... as soon as possible. not very descript... but i just topped an entire clone run... while rooting. i think at three nodes up? and having no issues. if anything, the clones are essentially auto-trained. just lettin em ride now.

I do alot of hardcore pinching and crushing the stem between nodes.. Stretchy plants piss me off..Slows down that stretch and makes for stronger plants in the long run..Man I just don't baby plants at all..They take a ass kicking before they get flipped for real!.. Sometimes ya just have to show em who running the show...Some of them girl's just think they are gonna hog up the whole tent and grow thru the lights...That's how they get there lil legs crushed 🤏😁

I've used hedge clippers before to level out the tent before flipping. This was my 2nd ever grow long ago.
That's something I've been wanting to try for months but haven't yet been able gain the height for it. - Letting it grow into the light and trimming like a hedge. But it makes sense to me that the plant wants to grow and should put on just as much mass below the cut that it would have put on above it.

Lol I laughed when I read this cuz that's EXACTLY how I treat mine. I've been helping a couple buddy's with their first grow and I keep telling them " don't be afraid to get a little rough". I give them a little ass kickin almost everyday and a couple big whoopins through out the grow. The tough survive. I don't want to breed with sissy finicky plants that are too susceptible to stress. Now with that being said.... I've certainly broke a few plants over the years. Lol
